Ezekiel38 & Japandrew - Bounce

Justin McAllister - Sharp Wit Da Sharpie

My good friend and insane artist (personally and professionally) Justin McAllister has been drawing portraits of the famous for years on end.  From album covers to wedding gifts - Justin has been lacing peoples walls with some of the most incredible original art I've ever seen.  In all honesty - these jpg's don't do him any justice.  Surrounded by over 1000 Sharpie Markers laying on his floor - his room is adorned with 100's of pictures that all have crystal clear clarity from a distance.  But as you approach - you are able to realize the complexity of what he does which then makes you realize the genius that is his work.  Justin is currently working for MMA artists, hollywood stars, and common folk alike.  Whatever you have in mind - Justin can get it done at a VERY reasonable me.  For more information on Justin's works and/or to contact him regarding a new or old original Sharpie Drawing - make sure to visit his facebook page by DIPPING YOUR DONUTS HERE.

Jeff Spec - Specnology LP

Jeff Spec is the last of a dying breed. The man really takes the time to put out a project the right way. No  gimmicks... no bullshit... just straight hip hop. If it's not right he takes the time to make it right and if it's not ready he keeps grindin until it is ready. Ten months ago the thought of the Specnology LP sparked. Now we see the final product. This is a soulful "make you feel good" album that is up beat for the most part. I am really impressed with the sample cuts through the whole project. Jeff really took the time to make this album have character from the production to the lyrics. He has some pretty ill guest spots through out the album too. Long story short... this is a very "REAL" album. Spec definitely creates music from his soul and it shows through the speakers on this one.

Full of courage and confidence the underlying message in Full Hearts is one of reassuring a path to success. The Joint "Mr. Perfect Randy Savage" deliberately expresses the confidence of a duo that only knows how to win. With tongue in cheek joints like "Day Job" and uplifting tracks like "Runaways" The State Champs urge us to look at our lives and find what we want then adjust our minds accordingly. All this over the spaced out boom bap production of Nick Arcade. This EP as a whole is more than just some songs 2 Ill cats put together. Tha Alkaholiks Ft. O.D.B - Hip Hop Drunkies (video)

In the mid 90's while Vibe magazine was busy promoting an east-coast west-coast war, O.D.B and the Liks where too drunk and too awesome to give a fuck. This was the result.

Defari - Focused Daily (Prod by Alchemist)

Tha Alkaholiks affiliate Defari released  Focused Daily in '99. The title track was my introduction to the now household name producer The Alchemist. At the time it was just a dope beat by a newbie producer.  Now, over a decade later, I can see why our buddy Al blew up to almost hall of fame status. He really has been "Focused Daily."

Erykah Badu ft. Common - Love Of My Life (video)

Sunday Throw Back!

Q-Tip - Vivrant Thing (video)

so necessary...

Louis Logic - Idiot Gear

Let's bring back Louis Logic's Idiot Gear off his 2003 album Sin-A-Matic. Chea!!

The 1st Beat That Kanye West Ever Sold

A lot of people know that Kanye West was born in Atlanta and moved to Chicago where he chased his dreams of music. He has come a long way from his humble start as a group member the Go Getters. What a lot of people don't know is where he made his first big break. Through The Wire was huge, of course, but Kanye was on the grind way before that. It all started back in 1996 with a phone call from producer Jermaine Dupri. The So So Def all star was working on his first solo album and needed some fresh production. Kanye was called up and the next thing you know Jermaine and Nas were spitting over Kanye's beat that ended up becoming the introduction to the entire project.

Hustle & Flow - Whoop That Trick (video)

The 2005 indie film Hustle & Flow has become a cult classic in my book. This is my absolute favorite part of the movie. DJay and Key just pieced together a makeshift home studio and they bring the "light" skinned brother, Dj Qualls, over to help them with the beat. The creative process in any one's craft is a beautiful thing.

Jungle Brothers- Straight out the Jungle (video)

Let's get this Sunday Throwback started right... native tongues in full effect.

Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens (Album)

Dropped back in July of '07 This album was my introduction to D&M favorite Blu. Both uplifting and relevant Below The Heavens features some of the best production Blu has ever had the opportunity to bless. This immaculate album was also my introduction to a young R&B singer we all know now by the name of Miguel Jontel or just Miguel.

I recommend listening closely to the message Blu is putting out with this album. Where ever you are in this world it's easy to look around and see both heaven and hell. What you decide to put your focus on is up to you. This Sunday forget church, do us a favor and bless yourselves! For Tracklist and download shoot the J. SHOOT IT!
