Coming out of nowhere on a song with Earl Sweatshirt, Captain Murphy first appeared in style. Appropriately matching the tone of the Flying Lotus produced “Between Friends”, CM also managed to deliver a competing verse with an established sweatshirted rapper known for tricky wordplay and upstaging his guest spots. No pictures, no interviews, no performances, no identity. This is how Murph rolls. Compare him to Banksy, compare him to Batman (see track “The Killing Joke”), whatever. This guy does not yet want his name revealed, and the enigma is a very important aspect of Captain Murphy’s appeal.
Rumors about his identity are zipping around various blogs. The names being thrown out currently are: Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Flying Lotus’s Madlib-esque alter ego, or some combination of the three. In actuality, it’s one of Earl’s friends from Somoa. Just kidding, he’s actually Tyler the Creator’s personal driver. Joking again, he’s actually Thom Yorke. I can’t seem to fully commit to any of the rumored identities that I’ve heard. For some reason my mind keeps going to Jay Electronica. I don’t think that he is the one rapping, but Captain Murphy’s beat choices have been those that Jay would slaughter, including the Jay Electronica beat “Dear Moleskin,” (which Jay did in fact slaughter). Other tracks I could see Jay on would be the TNGHT-produced “Shake Weight” (originally titled “Bugg’n”), which reinforces the Flying Lotus theory, as he is label mates with TNGHT on Warp Records. The other Jay-like track would be “Mighty Morphin Foreskin” which is loud, distorted, chaotic, and with ample crash cymbal.

A few weeks back we featured Go Dreamers under exposed album Animals vs. Machines . Around the same time Trinidad James hopped on my radar with his Don't Be S.A.F.E debut album. Now the two ATL exotics have merged over The Flush Musics 808's to let you know that they aren't serious but they still ain't playin. Shout to David Drake over at Fader.
Homeboy Sandman counts his accomplishments with all the years of gett'n it in with all his accomplices. So it's only natural that his new found fame and relative fortune really hasn't changed him much. Just a few more years of getting it in and a few new accomplishments to add to the log. Oh yeah, Fuck you CLEAR CHANNEL. Cop First Of A Living Breed on iTunes... Not now, but right now.
Murs X Fashawn drop the title track off of their new album (available now on iTunes). The 'Pass The Dutchie' "This Generation" sample makes for a nice addition to Adrian's hook while Murs and Fashawn have a back and forth about their respective generations. "Society wouldn't let us in so we bang'd out".
South African beatsmith to bring listeners his latest street release, the EP. Some features include has come together with Statik Selektah, Skyzoo, Rome Clientel, Mo The General, The Legion, Peter Gunz and more!
Stream and download via DJ Booth
Brown Bag Allstar Audible Doctor blesses us with his first full length vocal ep. Audible Doc. has made a name for himself with his vast catalogue of dope production. Now he embarks on a new side of his craft. I Think That you can expect the usual classic triumphant beats we've grown to love under some sick delivery we've only had small samples of in the past. Just what the Doc ordered.
The Soulstice collective out of NYC presents Rob Young. On his latest offering 'Unlikely Dreaming' Rob drops some very well timed bars about his future expectations and past sacrifices. The echoing drums and reverbing synths lend themselves to a very dope dreamscape.
Playdough is back on the scene with a sneak peek from his upcoming project Writer Dye: Deux or Die. King Of Queens is the first single off the project. This joint will give you that vintage Bohemian Rhapsody vibe along with a little hip hop Playdoughism, so hit play and let the music take over.

Frank just dropped a mysterious track out of the blue, and it's huge. Frank puts his majestic voice on the back burner and drops a few relaxed syncopated bars. Even though he's flipped his delivery a bit, his lyrics still contain his signature tounge'n cheek contradictions ("I'm kidd'n but I'm ballin, I'm playin but I'm serious") and his painted metaphors ("My passports buried and my hometown flooded with just a little bit of water but my shoes still muddy.") This seems to be Franks version of taking a break and relaxing and yet it's better than a whole heap of dedicated rappers out there.
Freddie and Curen$y drop their latest collab. 'Tell A Freind' uses the 'So Ghetto' Jay-Z sample as the backbone to this jazzy Ahmad Jamal like backdrop. The beat must have been inspired Gangsta Gibbs to get his "Nate Dog" on cause he lets loose at the beginning. I maybe would listen to more of that. Shout to Ruby Hornet.
Tarik Sabar just released a new beat tape that is full of stolen samples. He is a thief. Think about that for a second though. What sample isn't stolen (or at least borrowed). On second thought perhaps he is a genius, I'll leave that up for you to decide. One thing I do know is that these beats are dope. Enjoy.
It's been a bit since we've heard from both Dillon and Boog Brown. After completing solo projects they dropped the Batsauce produced 'Gimmie That' joint late last year (it's awesome). The unlikely duo have now collaborated on an entire project entitled The Martha Knuckles EP produced soley by Anthony Accurate. 7" vinyl and mp3 pre-orders are available at Indiegogo. I'm definitely gonna cop one.
The world wide web is still bubbling from the dopeness of Sam Lachow and Raz's latest project 5 Good Reasons. In all the madness, the dynamic duo just unleashed the latest visual from the project... Coyotes.

A.Jay.D (MiLKMEN) and TyPhilly got such great feedback from their Dope Dealers joint that they've now decided to step away from R&B and create an entire rap project fittingly titled Dope Dealers. Look for the Item Nine visual to drop sometime next week.
I'm always excited when our inbox gets blessed with some new new. A brand new track by a brand new group. California Renaissance blesses us with some 90's revival art with their own modern twist. Phonyfranchize is on the playground visuals and choppy editing. This one is going to be on repeat. We hope to hear more from CR soon.

A few words from Dom:
"My goal with this tape was to create a cohesive project that shows I can focus on creating a project with an evolving and developing mixture of sounds, which retains quality lyricism and an introspective take into my life during this past summer." Dom McLennon
I know a lot of you may not be going to church this morning and that's ok. Why is that ok you ask? Well, let's just say one of the most legendary R&B icon's of our time, Bobby Womack, graced the stage of Jimmy Fallon's show last night along side Damon Albard and Richard Russell and we have the footage to prove it. Press play and listen to Bobby preach on em...

Teaming up with KevinNottingham.com and indie-label start up Throat Chop Music, Reign on the Parade is Top $'s flag in the sand, marking his territory in this rap game. The Jackie Robinson story is one of epic porportions. In the upcoming film 42, Chadwick Boseman plays the part of the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball's color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. This is the trailer to the film featuring Jay-Z's Brooklyn (Go Hard).

If you didn't know by now I think it's time you started to pay attention. The Cranberry Show is doing work this year! This is their latest visual off the Paranormal Karaoke project... Traffic Lights.
South African beatsmith The Militia is gearing up to drop his DJ Booth hosted EP Timeless Classic on Tuesday September 25th. If the Liberace sample crossed with these Style-Wars clips don't speak volumes about the general vibe The Militia is emanating then New Yorkers Skyzoo and Rome Clientel pick up where he left off. This is Hip Hop, it started in the park.
Is that what I think it is? It sounds like producer Fizzy Womack made an Oboe go harder then teeth on the pavement. Add Term and Lil Fame to the equation and this joint goes tougher then your moms over cooked steak. Fizzyology will be dropping on November 6th.
West Philly is back out doing it's thang thang. This isn't a Jazzy Jeff production either, Spacehigh Reez is on this unique beat. His Spacehigh counter part Pate will be dropping Horns&.... wait why'd it just cut off like that? To be cont....
@Yuri_Beats flips a Radio Head sample that even the purest of all hipsters can bounce to. Then the tallest leprahcaun that ever lived in Massachusetts proceeds to kill it for a strange entourage of backwards couch jockeys. This is what you get when @RickyShabazz And The Boom Bap Boys mess with cameras and internets.

Last week we saw Despot and EL-P go in over Baauer beat 'Harlem Shake'. Tate Tucker has borrowed the same track and put his own spin on it. If you enjoy this you can cop his Follow The Leader ep. Check out the original below.
Some of Chi's finest get loose on this Rashid Hadee produced joint off of Love Greater // The Prequel.
Even producer Slot-A gets in on a verse.
Andrew from Fake Shore Drive and Chance The Rapper sit down to have a discussion on the thriving Hip Hop scene in Chicago.
J57 starts this joint with some strange sounds that could only be a K.I.D.S sample, then again I could be wrong. The rest of of the track is just more classic NYC shit, shaky close ups and negative overlays. The Track is off their recently released Brown Label 2 EP which can be copped at their website.

Check out some interview and performance footage that recently went down in NYC.
Dom is gearing up for his Sandy Shores Motel tape by dropping a single today and another tomorrow. The 12" distortion, piercing strings and chill keys give this tune a nice throwback feel. Dom's controlled flow has a hint of early Blu in it to. If this is exemplary of what we can expect on his tape (dropping 9-20-12) the whole thing should really go.
Ok, well... you have the technical wordplay of Sam Lachow, the gritty style that Raz delivers in his street infused verses, the silhouette of production perfection from Maggie and Sam, track #3 will blow your fucking mind, and last but not least Sam and Raz looked so good in their last mug shots that they used them for the album art. Those are 5 Good Reasons you need to download and listen to this right now. S/O to Mr. Lachow and Raz on a super dope project.
5 Good Reasons: download
I've been a "super fan" of The Soundmen for many years now. The cool thing about them is you never really know what to expect. The one thing you can always bank on from them... what ever they do will be fucking awesome. This is their latest called Funny Feeling.
